TIDE
TIDE is the collaborative work of Folsom Hills Elementary parents and teachers dedicated to increasing the depth of understanding surrounding identity, race, culture, and community. We are committed to promoting tolerance, acceptance, and inclusion in our school within the framework of PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support).
To do so, throughout the year we will highlight various communities, heritage days, and holidays with books, hands-on projects, and teaching resources. In the 2023-2024 school year, we will highlight:
- International Day of Sign Languages—September 23
- Diwali, Festival of Lights—November 12
- Black History Month—February
- Women’s History Month—March
We hope that this program will lead to productive discussions with our peers and our children, and increase empathy, understanding, and a sense of community on our campus.
Follow along with the program here and on Instagram (@folsomhillsfoxes) and Facebook. We’ll share our classroom displays as well as reading lists and printables for you to continue the learning at home.
September TIDE feature: International Day of Sign Languages
IDSL resources: learn about ASL from a deaf person; book lists; coloring page downloads; and more.
Thank you to Ms. Krewson's classroom for sponsoring our TIDE display this month! The students learned about the ASL alphabet to finger spell "We are the Folsom Hills Foxes".
